Frequently asked questions

How Remitz works, who can use it, how records are accessed, what AskREMI can do, and how patient data is protected.

Getting started

What is Remitz?

Remitz is a healthcare technology platform that helps physicians access, understand, and interact with patient medical records. Physicians can search for patients, retrieve available records through national healthcare networks, and use AskREMI to quickly explore and understand a patient’s medical history.

Who can use Remitz?

Remitz is intended for U.S.-licensed physicians and healthcare practices. Anyone can create an account and use AskREMI. Retrieving patient records with Monitor is available only to physicians who complete verification with their Type 1 NPI, a government-issued ID and facial verification.

How do I get access to patient record search?

After creating an account, physicians complete a brief identity and professional verification process using their Type 1 NPI, a government-issued ID, and facial verification. Network provisioning is typically completed within 7–10 days.

Create your free account

What happens during the 7–10 days before my network access is ready?

During this time, Remitz completes the network provisioning process so participating healthcare organizations can recognize your listing and respond to your patient record requests.

You don’t have to wait to start using Remitz. While your network access is being provisioned, you can upload and work with your own patient records and documents, connect supported applications and data sources, and use AskREMI with available healthcare knowledge.

Can my entire practice or organization use Remitz?

Yes. Remitz can support individual physicians as well as practices and healthcare organizations. Organizational environments can provide authorized team members with access to shared knowledge, workflows, integrations, and other organization-specific resources.

Talk to our team

Can my staff or care team use Remitz?

Yes. Team accounts allow organizations to add users and share access to resources such as organization knowledge, workflows, and connectors.

Medical directors and authorized administrators can manage user permissions, including whether individual team members have access to patient record search functionality.

Patient records

How does Remitz find patient medical records?

Remitz connects to national healthcare networks to search for and retrieve available patient records from participating healthcare organizations. Record availability varies depending on where a patient has received care and what information those organizations make available.

What types of medical records can Remitz retrieve?

Remitz can retrieve available clinical records shared by healthcare organizations participating in national healthcare networks. The specific information available varies by patient, provider, organization, and source system.

How far back can Remitz retrieve a patient’s medical history?

The amount of historical information available varies by patient and by the organizations that have treated them. Remitz can search for available historical records, but the depth and completeness of a patient’s history depends on what participating organizations make available.

Will Remitz find every medical record for a patient?

Not necessarily. Record availability depends on where a patient has received care, whether those organizations participate in connected healthcare networks, and what information they make available electronically.

Can Remitz retrieve records from providers outside my organization?

Yes. Remitz is designed to help physicians access available patient information from healthcare organizations outside their own practice or health system through national healthcare networks.

Do I need to know where my patient was previously treated?

Not necessarily. Remitz can help search for available patient information across connected healthcare networks without requiring you to manually identify and contact every previous provider.

What if no records are found for a patient?

Record availability depends on where a patient has received care and whether those organizations participate in connected healthcare networks. Remitz uses proprietary search logic to look across known and potential sources for available patient records, but there may be cases where no records are returned.

You can still upload records or documents you already have and use AskREMI to work with that information.

How current are the patient records in Remitz?

Remitz retrieves available records with the goal of helping build a longitudinal view of the patient’s medical history. The recency of individual records depends on when participating healthcare organizations make that information available through connected networks.

Can I upload records or documents I already have?

Yes. You can upload external medical documents to Remitz and use AskREMI to interact with that information alongside other available patient records.

What types of files can I upload to Remitz?

Documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, RTF), spreadsheets (XLSX, XLS, CSV, TSV), images (JPG, PNG, WEBP) and structured files such as C-CDA, XML, JSON and EDI 835/837 billing files.

Does Remitz replace my EHR or EMR?

No. Remitz is designed to complement your existing systems by helping you access and understand patient information that may exist outside your own EHR or EMR.

Monitor

Where does Monitor get patient records?

Monitor requests records through national health information exchange, from participating hospitals, health systems and clinics across the country. You can also upload records you already have and assign them to the patient's profile. We're adding more ways to connect over time.

Where records come from

How long does it take to get records?

Most single-patient searches return records in 2–5 minutes. Batch requests for a list of patients typically complete within 12–24 hours.

What types of records will I get?

Records come back as C-CDA clinical documents, the standard format for exchanging records. That can include Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs), discharge summaries, consultation notes, progress notes, care plans, history and physicals, operative notes, procedure notes, referral notes, transfer summaries and unstructured documents such as scanned files. You can always open the original file.

See all 11 document types

What if no records are found?

Records available depend on what participating organizations share through the network, so a search may return fewer records than expected, or none. Patient searches don't use credits, so a search that finds nothing costs you nothing. You can still upload records you have and add them to the patient's profile.

Does Monitor connect to my EHR?

No integration is needed. Monitor works in your browser, alongside the EHR you already use. Records come from national health information exchange and from files you upload.

Can I search for records for any patient?

No. Patient record access must be connected to an authorized healthcare purpose and comply with applicable privacy requirements. Physicians may use Remitz to retrieve records when they have an appropriate treatment relationship with the patient.

Who can use Monitor?

Remitz is intended for U.S.-licensed physicians and healthcare practices. Retrieving patient records with Monitor is available only to physicians who complete verification with their Type 1 NPI, a government-issued ID and facial verification. Verification typically takes about 24 hours, and your record-exchange connection is then activated, typically within 7–10 days. Anyone can create an account and use AskREMI in the meantime.

How we verify physicians

How does the AI patient summary work?

Monitor can generate a summary from the patient's C-CDA documents. Every point in the summary is cited, so you can open the source document and check it. Summaries support your review; you make every clinical decision.

Can I request records for many patients at once?

Yes. Upload a list of patients as a CSV file in the portal, and Monitor requests records for each one. Batch requests are available on every plan and typically complete within 12–24 hours.

How much does Monitor cost?

Remitz offers a free self-service plan, with credit-based paid plans that scale with usage. Patient searches don't use credits; credits are used only when retrieved records are processed. No credit card is needed to start.

How is patient data protected?

Every Remitz plan, including Free, includes a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Patient health information is not used to train AI models. How patient information is handled, stored and retained is governed by your BAA, our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

How accurate are AskREMI's answers?

Every answer cites the source document and shows the text it was drawn from, so you can check any point in one click. Like any AI tool, AskREMI can make mistakes. Always confirm important details in the source and use your clinical judgment.

What can I ask AskREMI?

AskREMI can help you work with information available through Remitz, including patient medical records, trusted Remitz knowledge, uploaded documents, organization-specific policies and procedures, and information available through connected systems. What AskREMI can access depends on the task, your permissions, and the information available within your Remitz environment.

How does AskREMI find its answers?

AskREMI uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). Before it answers, it retrieves the most relevant passages from your patient's records, your uploaded documents and the Remitz healthcare knowledge base, then writes the answer from those passages, with citations. That keeps answers grounded in real sources instead of general AI memory.

What happens if the records don't contain the answer?

If the answer isn't available in the records or the Remitz healthcare knowledge base, AskREMI is designed to search the web and cite the URL it used, clearly labeled as a web source. The records available depend on what participating organizations share through health information exchange.

What's in the Remitz healthcare knowledge base?

A curated knowledge base of clinical and healthcare operations references, including clinical standards, peer-reviewed research, coding standards, payer policies, billing rules, FHIR, EDI and C-CDA standards, and appeal templates. Answers drawn from the knowledge base are cited, just like answers from patient records.

What files can I upload?

Documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, RTF), spreadsheets (XLSX, XLS, CSV, TSV), images (JPG, PNG, WEBP) and structured files such as C-CDA, XML, JSON and EDI 835/837 billing files.

See all supported formats

Can AskREMI summarize a patient's history?

Yes. Ask AskREMI to summarize a patient's medical history or a long outside record, and it writes a provider-facing summary from the records available. Each point is cited so you can review it before relying on it.

Is patient data used to train AI?

No. Patient health information is not used to train AI models. AskREMI is protected by the same safeguards as the rest of the Remitz platform, and every plan includes a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement.

Does AskREMI make clinical decisions for physicians?

No. AskREMI is designed to help healthcare professionals retrieve, organize, analyze, and work with information more efficiently. It supports—not replaces—the healthcare professional’s independent clinical judgment and responsibility for patient care.

Your organization’s knowledge

Can my organization create its own knowledge base in Remitz?

Yes. Organizations can create private knowledge resources using their own documents, policies, SOPs, reference materials, and other organization-specific information. This gives authorized team members a centralized way to find and interact with internal knowledge through Remitz.

Can AskREMI answer questions about our internal policies and SOPs?

Yes. Once approved organization-specific information is available within Remitz, authorized users can ask questions against that knowledge. For example, a team member could ask about a facility-specific prior authorization policy instead of manually searching through internal documents.

Can we use proprietary company information with Remitz?

Yes. Organizations can use their own proprietary documents, knowledge, data, and processes within their Remitz environment, subject to their configuration, access controls, and user permissions.

Workflows & integrations

What are Remitz workflows?

Remitz workflows allow users to orchestrate multi-step healthcare processes using AI, data, knowledge sources, connected applications, APIs, and other Remitz capabilities. Instead of using AI for a single question or task, workflows can bring multiple steps and systems together into a repeatable process.

Can I create my own workflows?

Yes. Users can create workflows tailored to their own clinical, administrative, operational, and financial processes. Workflows can combine Remitz capabilities with organization-specific knowledge, connected systems, data, and other tools to support the way your organization already works.

What can a Remitz workflow connect to?

Depending on the integration, Remitz workflows can use connectors, API connections, plugins, Remitz knowledge and data sources, and external systems connected to your Remitz environment. This allows information and capabilities from multiple systems to be incorporated into a single workflow.

Do I need to know how to code to create a workflow?

Not necessarily. Remitz is designed to make workflow orchestration accessible without requiring users to build traditional software integrations from scratch. The setup required will depend on the complexity of the workflow and any external systems being connected.

Can Remitz connect with software my organization already uses?

Yes, where supported. Remitz can use connectors, APIs, and plugins to work with external applications and data sources. Available capabilities depend on the external system, its available APIs or integration methods, and the type of access your organization has enabled.

Privacy & security

Is Remitz HIPAA compliant?

Remitz is designed to support HIPAA-compliant healthcare workflows and maintains administrative, physical, and technical safeguards designed to protect protected health information (PHI).

How we protect patient data

Does Remitz store the patient records it retrieves, and for how long?

Remitz’s handling, storage, and retention of patient information is governed by the applicable Business Associate Agreement (BAA), Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use. These documents provide additional information about how data is handled and the terms that apply to your use of Remitz.

How we protect patient data

What's the difference between Individual and Team?

Individual is for one person with their own credits. Team puts your practice in one organization account, with multiple users, a shared credit pool, centralized billing and admin tools to manage who has access. You can set up a Team yourself in your account.

Do Team plans charge per user?

Team plans are based on the shared credits your practice uses, not on separate allowances for each person. You choose the credit capacity your practice needs and can change it as your usage grows.

Are some features only available on higher plans?

Most capabilities are included on every plan. Analyze and Recover are coming soon. They'll use your claims and remittance data and are planned for paid plans. Team adds tools for working together, and Enterprise adds advanced integrations and controls. Managed recovery services are available to Enterprise accounts on request.
